Every baby develops at his/her own pace, yet milestones are predictable. Your observations, awareness of your baby's emerging skills and needs, and interactions are helpful.

If you have a question or concern, the screening offers you an opportunity to get more information, help, or local resources. I offer the Newborn Behavioral Observation Scale, Ages and Stages Questionnaires (1 month to 5 years of age), which are well-researched, high quality developmental questionnaires for screening infant development from birth to 5 years.

The ASQ and ASQ-SE assess baby's communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, personal-social, and social and emotional development. The ASQs are parent-completed forms, which are scored, and returned to you to keep in your baby book and share with your pediatric provider. Most parents enjoy completing the surveys and are often surprised to see that their baby can do some things that they had not noticed. You will also be provided with learning activities to share with your baby at different ages.

Developmental screening is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Unfortunately, the screenings are not provided in most settings because of lack of trained professionals and time constraints.

These screenings are offered at low-cost with feedback and follow-up resources, if desired.
